I do run into the word chide from time to time. Could you please tell me how common it is amongst native speakers?

The boss chided her for being late.

It's very uncommon. You're far more likely to hear

'The boss reprimanded Miss Conception for being late.'

'Little *****'s dad told him off for pulling the cat's tail.'
