Use of "chase"

Hi

Is the use of chase OK here? Any other better word please?

I didn't know they had a ferocious dog in their driveway. It started chasing me the moment it saw me.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: Ferocious or ferocious-looking would both be OK in the given sentence?

Mr. Tom Is the use of chase OK here? Only if you were already moving, like running past on your morning jog, and you would have to have already gone by and be running faster than the dog, which is unlikely.
