Use of 'carry'

Hi

Could you please tell me if this sentence is natural?

As a teacher, her voice does not carry very well.

Does it mean that she does not have a strong voice required of a good teacher?

Thanks,

Tom

  • Thanks, Tom The sentence is natural enough, though I don't see what "as a teacher" has to do with a voice that doesn't carry well.

No. I think you want "For a teacher, her voice doesn't carry very well." This means that you would expect a teacher to have a voice that carries well, and considering that she is a teacher, you would expect her voice to carry well, too, but it doesn't.
