Use of "bump down"

Hi

Is the use of bumping down OK here? Could you offer me a better choice of words?

Because of lack of space, many students kept their water bottles on their desks that that they kept bumping down.

[the implied meaning is that the students were hitting the bottles accidently and the bottles were falling down.]

"bumping down" is not right, and there are other problems too. You can say this: Because of lack of space, many students put their water bottles on their desks, and they kept accidentally knocking them off. (I changed the first "kept" to "put" just to avoid the "kept ...

"bumping down" is not right, and there are other problems too. You can say this:

Because of lack of space, many students put their water bottles on their desks, and they kept accidentally knocking them off.

(I changed the first "kept" to "put" just to avoid the "kept ... kept" repetition, which was a bit noticeable. In itself, the first "kept" was correct.)
