There are two different structures concerning this issue: used to do something and used to something /

used to doing something. Since I realize that you are not familiar with these structures, I'll start off

by providing some simple examples.

1. I used to borrow books in English from the library - It means that in the past one of my activities

was to borrow books in English from the library. This activity occurred regularly. However, today I'm no

longer familiar with this activity, and I prefer doing other things.

2. I used to be kind to my neighbor - It means that in the past I treated my neighbor with kindness,

and I behaved with great courtesy. However, this is not the situation today. I no longer have respect

for him, and I think he doesn't deserve my niceness.

To sum up, used to do something means that something happened on a regular basis in the past,

but it no longer exists at the present time. This structure refers to the past.

3. I used to preparing my homework on my own - It means that in the past I needed that someone

would help me prepare my homework, as I had difficulties answering questions by myself.

However, today I'm able to do that on my own, and I don't need to ask for someone's help.
