Use of articles

Hello,

I would be grateful if someone could tell me the rule,if any, regarding the use of the definite article or zero article in the sentences given below.

1. Capital letters are used for the names of people, places and languages. =uses the

2. Capital letters are used for names of people, places and languages. = uses the zero article


Both sound natural to me but is one technically more correct than the other and if so, why?
