Use of articles

Hi
I wanted to know if I have used " the correctly in the following example. I'm not very comfortable with use of articles (the/a/none). please let me know of any practical guideline for use (not use) of "the" that you know.
as for example:
I sent somebody a password protected document. I send them an email to give them the password. the email was like this:
"The password for the file is xxx" is that correct? should I use "the" before password because I'm talking about a particular one for a particular file that they know about?
Thanks.
