I am assuming that the article is required in both of these as well:

The flight was canceled due to 'a' medical emergency.
The flight had 'an' emergency.

Am I right?

I see. Thanks a lot. And the same thing applies, as we have discussed previously, the use of the plural 'emergencies' in both sentences does not require them and it would be wrong to use them. Right?
