Use of apostrophes in student book, teacher's book

Hi, I have researched a lot about the use of apostrophes but I still don't get the logic in saying 'student book' without apostrophe and 'teacher's book' with apostrophe. If the book belongs to the student why not 'student's book' or is it optional? I have never heard of 'teacher book' though, without apostrophe. This goes for other cases, e.g. student files,... I would really appreciate your help here...
Thanks,
Angela

It is a good question. Basically, either form is OK for both, but custom has decided each one's usual form differently.
