Use of "and" and ",and"

Dear all, Hi ! Would you please state when should we use “and” or “,and” in a sentence? I would be also very appreciated if you could provide me with the detailed information about the correct answer of the following questions and also the reason why the other answers are false. Thank you very much for your time and consideration in advance.

Ex) Defaunation has caused numerous geographic range constrictions in marine animal species,……. them locally extinct in many habitats.
1-And has driven 2-that are driven by 3- which it drives 4-diving

Ex)These are situated on the seacoast,..................the rapid transfer of specimens to the laboratory where they may be maintained in seawater provided by special circulating systems.
1-facilITated 2-and facilitate 3 that facilitates 4- facilitating

I assume that "And has driven" should be " a nd has driven", and "diving" should be "d r iving". I believe that the correct answers are supposed to be (4) and (4). The other contenders are (2) and (2) (the rest are more clearly ungrammatical).

  • I believe that (2) and (2) are supposed to be excluded because of the comma -- specifically because the part after the comma would be a continuation of the same clause rather than a separate clause.
  • This "rule" is widely ignored if the comma helps readability.
