Use of 'Ameliorating'

The curtains drop on another academic session and we hope that this magazine captures the essence of the memories, accomplishments and achievements we were able to attain through this ameliorating 2017-2018 period.

Have I used the word correctly? Open to suggestions for similar adjectives.
