Use high pitch

When meaning to someone to speak loudly, I said: use a high pitch.

Probably not a regular expression, but is "a" used correctly for this context, or without "a" is correct?

Top answer

Use 'a', as you are referring to one of several kinds of pitches. 'Use a high pitch' does not mean 'speak loudly'. eg Generally speaking, women use a higher pitch than men, but they do not speak louder than men.
