Use "beyond that" and the beginning of the sentence

Can I write like this

If point x lies on plane P, the value of y will be zero. Beyond that, there are two other cases for the value of y: positive and negative.

Can I start the second sentence in that way. Does "besides" have the same meaning when I write:

...Besides, there are two other cases for the value of y: positive and negative.

Thank you!

James, I personally do not think that "beyond that" is suitable for such an expression. "Furthermore or besides" will be much better with your second sentence. Good luck...

Is beyond that the same as apart from that.
