Use "a" or not to use?

I can see in a lot of place where it is used after "and", and in a lot of places i can see that it is skipped/not used. Not sure who's correct on this, so i better ask in here.

Example. "There are two cars out there. A BMW on the left and a Mercedes on the right."

Now my question would be, should i use "a" after "and"?

And what if i use "the" ?

Example " The BMW and Mercedes features the same engine"

Or it suppose to be "The BMW and the Mercedes features the same engine"?

By using "the" i want to say about some particular models, but should i use it twice?
