Usage of word abound

The word abound is a verb which means something is in abundance. We normally use be(is/am/are/was/were) with verbs.But i have read many examples of abound and at all places there was no is/am/are with abound. I want to know why it is used alone. For example : And with no real treatment available,uncertainities abound.

Verbs do not require the helping verb "be."

e.g.

I shop at the fish market.

Whales live in the ocean.

Uncertainties abound amidst the spread of the virus.

The progressive tenses use "be"

I am shopping at the fis
