Rakshit SinhaOnly "panic" was used there since.
My opinion is this. Since we have a retrospective context (The usage of the word panick turned obsolete in the late 90's) , I would use "then" respectively, .........only "panic" was used

grammarfreak "panic" was used since then.
'Since requires present perfect.
grammarfreakThe usage of the word panick turned obsolete
It was not the usage; it was the use. The usage remains the same.

You are right! I didn't look at it carefully when I copied and pasted it.
Mister Micawber'Since requires present perfect.
Sorry MM, correct me if I am wrong. I agree we usually use "since then" in present prefect. But as far as I remember, we can also use "since then" in past tense. For example:
I saw John, who was my best friend in high school, last year

He hadn't changed much since then?
Would you call this incorrect as well? From the example previously written by grammarfreak.

Thanks a lot! I got my mistake.
But is the word 'usage' incorrect there? If yes then why?

'Usage' refers more to the meaning and function of a word than simply whether we use it. Many people think 'usage' is just a fancy way of saying 'use', but it is not.

I would unless you show me some further past action that makes past perfect appropriate here.

Example:
I saw John, who was my best friend in high school, last year in the reunion. He hadn't changed much since then.
