Usage of 'then' for successive events.

Can 'then' be used to indicate a sequence of related events decribed by two or more distinct statements?

e.g. After deseeding the raw mangoes, the cooks cut them into small cubes. The cubes are then treated with preservatives like vinegar or brine.

I am aware of other options like later, afterwards, etc.
