Usage of the word "proper"

Hallo.

With the sentence: I have never owned a proper studio album.

Is it also correct to say: I have never owned a studio album proper?

Hi, I wouldn't say the latter is wrong, but your example sounds odd. The former sentence is much, much more common. Clive

What exactly does 'proper' mean in such usages? Real, genuine, strictly speaking.

eg I don't live in Toronto proper. I live in a small community that is just outside the boundary of Toronto.

Can we use phrases like 'The World Cup proper'? It would be OK in a context where you are talking of something that is often confused with the World Cup, but which is not really
