Usage of ‘the’

1) There is a gab between the educated and uneducated

2) There is a gab between the educated and the uneducated.

I have seen the first sentence but I think that the second sentence is grammatically correct.

Is there a meaning difference between them? What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual.
