Usage of size

Hi, everyone
Could someone tell me which one is the correct usage?
A small size beige sweater.
A size small beige sweater.
Off topic, about using phrasal verbs.
Please put your shoes on.
Please put on your shoes.
Are they different in meaning?
Thanks

I'd say, in a department store, one of the following: I'm looking for a beige sweater - a "Small". I'm looking for a size "Small" beige sweater. The off-topic sentences about shoes are exactly the same in meaning.

  • Usually if there will be only one or two words between the main verb ("put") and the particle ("on"), the two words of the phrasal verb are separated (but they don't have to be unless it's a pronoun -- usually "it" or "them").
  • If there will be quite a few words, the main verb and the particle are placed together.
