Usage of "Respectively"

Hi,

I was wondering if this sentence is grammatically correct?

"Unlike in other countries, in Hong Kong and Thailand the traditional martial arts of Kung Fu and Muay Thai respectively, exerted tremendous influence, which kept them beyond the reach of Japanese Karate’s might."

Am I using "respectively" properly? Are there any other issues with this sentence?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers!

"respectively" is correct. If you put a comma after "respectively", you should also put one before. I see no reason to capitalise "kung fu" or "karate".

  • "respectively" is correct.

  • I see no reason to capitalise "kung fu" or "karate".
  • I am not familiar with Muay Thai, so I don't have any feel for the capitalisation, though "Thai", as the country adjective, would normally be capitalised.
