Usage of "as" in clauses

0 i'm confused with the usage of as when introducing a clause like in the following examples: 02br
02br
00As discussed in Asian History, the territory of China extended to Europe during the Yuan Dynasty but the vast empire soon came to a fall. 02br
02br
00i'm wondering whether there should be an "is" i.e. the be-verb following "as". but it seems to be sure that it is the case in the example: 02br
02br
00As is well kown, the earth goes around the sun. 02br
02br
00Would someone kindly clarify this to me? tks. 0-

0The 'be' verb is not required after 'discussed' (the past participle) because it is part of the passive formation; 'be' is required in your second case because it is the linking verb ('well-known' is an adjective). 02br 02br 00As (was) intended, I arrived at 8:00. ' 02br 02br 02br 00As is well-known, the earth is flat.

0so you mean in the first case, it doesn't matter whether or not to have a "be" verb following "as", as indicated by your brackets? 050010id1

00Yes, placing a word in parentheses in these grammatical discussions means it is optional. It may be included; it may be excluded. Both are correct. 02br
