Usage of pronouns

When I met some boy dropping pebbles into a drain, I said, "Stop dropping them." and I was wondering if I should have said, "Stop dropping the pebbles into a drain.", because that was the first time I mentioned the pebbles to the boy and then, can't I use pronouns? Or even if I mention something for the first time, can I use pronouns and the first example sentence is okay to use in the context?

Thank you so much as always and have a good day.

The natural thing to say is 'Stop dropping those!' The context makes it obvious that you are referring to the pebbles.

But even more natural and much more common is 'Stop doing that!'. 'That' refers to 'the act of dropping pebbles down the drain'.

Or even, "Stop it."
