The first one indicates that they are now or are currently or are for the time being applying online.
The second one indicates that they generally apply online whenever they apply.

Same here -- the use of the present continuous (or present progressive) tense tells us that we are currently maintaining something.

"My accountant maintains my financial records, but while he is on vacation for 6 months my attorney is maintaining them."

The same sorts of meanings can be applied to the other examples as well.
