Usage of preposition

Kindly advise me the usage of "to" in the sentence

"In the course of development, from the moment of birth to adulthood, the trunk, already proportionately long in infants, increases to three times its original length."

Should it be

In the course of development, from the moment of birth to adulthood, the trunk, already proportionately long in infants, increases three times its original length.

Thanks and regards for your help in this regard.

'Increases to ' is fine in the sentence, Anon, where '3 times its original length' is the ending size of the growth; the final size is therefore 3X (the trunk's original length is X). Your sentence is also OK, but '3 times its original length' is the extent of growth, so that its final size is 4X. )
