Or
"He returned my phone after much pleading."
Can I also use much in this way?
"After much frustration I decided to leave the party."
Or much anger, much humiliation.

It's grammatically OK, but be sure that "frustration" is really the word you want. Frustration is not the most common emotion that one would associate
