Usage of "lose count"

Hi,

Can I say these sentences?

1. I've lost count the number of times I've decided something and then realised in hindsight that there could've been a better way

2. I've lost count of the number of times I've decided something and then realised in hindsight that there could've been a better way

Thanks !

I couldn't / can't count the number of times I've tried this. No "of" needed.

Thank you, guys !

Then the book I'm reading contains a misprint - in it there's a sentence that reads along these lines: "I've lost count the number of". The "of" was left out by mistake.

Could this possibly be colloquial dialogue??
