Usage of "long since/long ago"

Hi,

Could you help me get a handle on the usage of "long since" and "long ago"?
After sifting though some examples, I came to a "tentative" conclusion that "long since" is more likely to be used with "the present perfect" and "long ago" - with "the past simple". Based on your experience in using those word combinations, is my conclusion right?

For example, which sentences would you consider normal off hand?

1.1. He has long since quit smoking
1.2. He long since quit smoking

2.1. He has long ago quit smoking
2.2. He long ago quit smoking
