usage of keep up

Assume my student is writing some word on the board and half way through he gets stuck, now is it correct for me to tell him, Ok honey, sit down, "I'LL KEEP IT UP". ?
I'd rather tell him, "I'll take care of the rest" but anyway, my query is about the usage of "keep up" phrasal verb.

Keep it up is to continue what you are doing, at the same pace or intensity.

He jogs six miles every morning. It is good exercise. I hope he keeps it up.
