I'm confused with how to use this collocation: in a scatter of
Do you find the following examples that I made up natural ?:

1. The embankment was in a scatter of scree and pebbles
2. Her room was in a scatter of clothes and empty bottles

I find mostly technical references. I recall using "scatter" in the 60's to describe a property of sequential numerical data collected from certain experimental test runs in which consistency was the objective.
