Usage of for "and" "to"

Was trying to explain the difference between the use of "to" and ""for" to a spanish person and really couldn't find the way to do it. Any help would be gratefully received.

They are usually quite different: 'To' is generally a preposition of movement or direction: I went to the store. 'For' is generally a preposition of purpose: This book is for you. Only rarely do they approach synonymity: To/For me, this book is quite interesting.
