Usage of footnote

I like movies.1 Here footnote number 1 is given in superscript and placed after the dot. For comma also it is done the same way. I want to know where should the footnote number placed if the sentence ends with a "?" ";" ":"

I would place the superscript at the end of the sentence, i.e. after any final punctuation, if the note refers to the entire sentence. If it were placed before the final punctuation, it would refer specifically to the immediately preceding word or phrase only.
