usage of commonly seen phrases

Which of the two sentences in correct--- (1) She, to a great extent, is a perfectionist. (2)She is, to a great extent, a perfectionist.

I am not a native English speaker. What I mean in the above sentence is that "she often does things like a perfectionist does." I am also not sure whether I should use "to a great extent" or "to a great degree"in the sentence above. Many thanks!

If you must use one, use #2, which is possible, but I would put it at the end: She is a perfectionist to a great extent. To a great extent, she is a perfectionist .
