Usage of colon

Hello,

Just a quick question. Can we use colon to list the things we observe? Suppose I go to a park and observe many things. Would a colon be better to list all these things one by one, or an em dash?

Have you considered simply using commas? eg I saw ducks, trees, bushes, flowers and squirrels. That seems like the best approach to me.
