Must we always use this phrase at the end of the sentence? If it can be used in the middle, do we need a comma? Can someone give examples on how it can be used in a sentence?
Example: I can't at any rate lie to him. (or: I can't lie to him at any rate)
I am assuming the same goes for 'in any case' and 'in any event' as well?
Top answer
It can be set within a sentence if set off by commas, but it is awkward there.
