Usage of article THE in sentence

Currently, I have trouble defining whether I could use THE when talking about Date.

Example: The meeting was held on (the??) 16 December, 2021.

Appreciate your kind response. Thank you

There are many ways to write a express a date in speech and writing. Your "16 December, 2021" is one standard way, often seen in academic writing, and it does not take an article. If you write it out, it can be expressed "the sixteenth of December, 2021", but I believe that most people read yours aloud, unnaturally, as "sixteen December, twenty twenty-one".

  • Another way that can take the article is "December the sixteenth, 2021", but that "the" is unnecessary, and I myself use "December sixteenth".
