Usage of article (a,an/the)

Is Article usage of below correct? I cannot understand the "has a bad a scowl" part.. I think it's wrong but since I am not native english speaker, I am not 100% sure. Can someone please correct this?
I thought a or an cannot be used on something you cannot count.

It could be
eg . . . beat up on the guy that's snarly and has as bad a scowl on his face
or
eg . . . beat up on the guy that's snarly and has a bad scowl on his face.
