Hello Friends,

This book explores the role of patriarchy in the Muslim and Christian communities.

Is 'the' necessary before 'Muslim'?

Thanks so much.

Top answer

"The" makes them the typical, representative communities of their type. Without "the", the book might concern only various communities of those types. It is unwise for a writer to rely on one little word to convey so much meaning.

No.

With 'the' it's similar to 'all'; without 'the' it's similar to 'some'.
