Usage of animate: animated my trip/efforts

According to Cambridge Dictionary, one definition of animate is to cause someone or something to be more active or full of life.

I have made up two examples using it.

(1) It was very boring traveling around the city by myself. Fortunately, I met a few friends there, who took to different attractions. Their company animated my trip.

(2) I got lost in the forest. After many failed attempts to find my way out, I began to give up. However, when I found a map on the ground, it animated my efforts to find an exit.

Am I using the verb correctly? Thank you very much for your time and help.
