Usage of admittance and admission

My Korean English dictionary says admittance to the club [ the society ] is wrong because only specific places are used with the word admittance, but I found this sentence Gaining admittance to the club was no easy matter. in Longman dictionary, so do you agree with my Korean English dictionary's opinion or could you tell me the right usage of the word and the difference between admittance and admission? Thank you so much as usual and I hope to hear from you again.
