Usage of "a" article before someone's name

Hi!

Could you please help me to understand whether it's fine to use "a" article before someone's name?

For example, someone is calling over the phone and asking your wife, but you don't know the person. Can you say: Dear, a Smith is calling!

Top answer

Yes but it is informal and rather rude if overheard by Mr Smith.
