How can write the year 2001 in words, twenty hundred one,two thousand one or two thousand and one?what is the rule behind this? pl. reply teachers

In BrE, that year was two thousand and one. I suspect that in American English there would be no 'and', but we'll need an American to confirm.

In neither BrE or AmE is there a hyphen between 'two' and 'thousand'.
