Us two

Is it correct to say "us two" in any situation or should it always be "the two of us"?

For example:
"It was a lovely day for us two"
"I made a dinner for us two"

'Us two' is fine in informal uses. 'The two of us' does sound more standard to me for more formal situations. If ' We three kings of Orient are' is OK, then there should be nothing wrong with the objective case.
