"Us" as subject?

Hi, I would like to ask you guys whether this sentence is correct:
Us Marvel fans will gladly follow Captain Marvel’s lead to a more expansive and gender-infused universe.

I think it's incorrect to use "us" as the subject, but the writer (of the sentence) insists that it is correct. I am really confused. Please tell me whether this is correct or not, thanks

Fivejedjon is right, but I'd just like to add that "us" is commonly used incorrectly this way in spoken English. Your sentence reminds me of a cigarette advert in the '60s: "Us Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch."
