Dear Sirs, Madams,

I am applying for the PhD in your program “XXX” and I have enclosed my CV for your consideration.
I am a third-year graduate in XXX University and I earned my bachelor’s degree in 2010.
During the work of original research, done in April 2009, I investigated about production and quality of rocket grown in floating system with or without aeration of nutrient solution. the results obtained were exposed during the discussion of my degree thesis.
The B.A. has me prepared as an agronomist junior but I was be disappointed because the lessons and the tutorials were focused on how develop and practice conventional agriculture giving relatively little attention on traditional and organic agriculture; just then I decided to change the direction of my university career: I wanted to learn how to mitigate or avoid the environmental impact of agriculture; therefore, I enrolled in a Master's degree program in environmental management of rural areas.
I engaged the two-year period with enthusiasm and courage, examining in depth, sometimes even when not required, the subject discussed in class.
It was then that I heard for the first time theoretical constructs such development of indicators to measure biodiversity, genetic erosion, strategies to mitigate the impact of climate changes, multifunctionality in agriculture and ecological services, agronomic conservation practices to reduce erosion and much more.
At that time I also had the opportunity to spend a period of study abroad adhering to the Erasmus program.This experience let me to gain knowledge about aspects not included in my Msc course, such the landscaping and the management of protected natural areas.
During my second work of original research done in 2012, I learned and accomplished many laboratory skills like measurement electric impedance in the plant's tissue.
This experience took place at the XXX team, headed by Professor XXXX, a pioneer in research on plant neurobiology, allowed me to know and work with highly qualified lab staff in an international environment. Their skills and their methods have expanded my research interests by giving it a holistic and modern more; now my interest research are strongly influenced by that experience but specifically oriented to organic agriculture. I would like to go into depth on the matter. Beside other knowledge on environmental issues, I have good computer skills and literature searching learned at XXX University.
The remarkable scientific output, the relevant and absolute authority of the teaching staff and the entire research group, and the international dimension peculiar to the XXX , is to me a fundamental stimulus to undertake a rigorous and prolific research path at your department, with the absolute conviction of being able to become part of a suitable environment for the shaping of my studies and research in the soil ecology field.
