Urgent!! if the question has DID in it it has to be (on most occasions) the simple past tense???

teaching tomorrow and i think i can say this for sure but i need verification on it, you cant say it for past continuous and so i think im safe in say 'if the question has did it in then the tense beign used is the simple past'!!!!!!!!

I say you're correct. (Past continuous uses "was" and "were" as auxilliaries.)

Did you buy any milk? (reply) I did go to the market, but they didn't have any milk.

I did a bad thing. (main verb)
