urgent help needed! WHAT IS HE LIKE / WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE ??

Will someone please be kind enough to help me analyse these two sentences?

  • What IS he LIKE?

  • What DOES he LOOK LIKE ?
What part of speech is like in these two sentences? its function ? It seems to me that the first LIKE is a preposition, and the second LIKE is a linking verb?

Many many thanks.

BTW,
What IS he LIKE?
is also related to the character/personality of the person, not just the looks, as in the 2nd.
