I am writing in connection with the *** programme for the firs semester of the academic year ***. I would like to spend the next semester at the ***. My choice is well-grounded, the selected programme would provide a significant help in deepening my knowledge.

One of the most important aspects concerning the choice of the course to apply for, was to fit well to my academic programme.

As a student of Computer Sciences I had the opportunity to gain insight into the details of informatics, and additionally I made an effort to accomplish subjects, with the help of which it is possible to obtain deep mathematical knowledge. At the selection of my main course, it was of primal importance for it to provide a modern, and working knowledge well suitable in treating real world problems. I choose the field of Artificial Intelligence, that allowed me to familiarize myself with intelligent systems, a field that is getting more attention nowadays, as the improvement in computational power permits its use in several applications.

From my point of view solid theoretical knowledge forms an essential part of problem solving, as improper approach to a problem may influence critically the success of a project.

Accordingly, at the selection of my project lab multiple aspects were taken into account. I was looking for a subject, by which I would be able to deepen my knowledge in artificial intelligence, nevertheless use my mathematical knowledge efficiently, thus improving my practical problem solving skills.

Medical image processing turned out to be a suitable field, as advanced knowledge form both artificial intelligence, and mathematics is required for it. Additionally the results of the student project are utilized for extending the capabilities of a real CAD system.

By the semester to be spent abroad, my primal goals are to deepen my knowledge, and to acquire the abilities essential for using it in solving real world problems efficiently.

*** suits these expectations quite well. At the Department of Informatics a separate section is dedicated to medical imaging. The accomplishment of the selected subjects available here would especially deepen my knowledge in medical image processing acquired earlier. Besides, within the confines of the Computational Informatics programme it would be possible to study mathematical subjects taylored to meet the requirements of computational heavy application areas, that would be especially useful in image processing.

The host country has played an important role in the selection of the institute as well. Germany possesses significant industrial potential, several companies dealing with medical image processing resident here. As the industrial needs postulate, the goal of education is the acquirement of a working knowledge that can be used in practice efficiently. Due to intensive application, the ability to use the acquired knowledge in practice is regarded significant, that warrants the high quality of the tuition.

At the moment training similar to the one at *** is unavailable in ***. Only courses dealing with the domain in general are available here. The subjects dedicated to medical applications, and the involvement of industrial partners assure the acquirement of the solid knowledge required for efficient use in the field.

The semester would greatly contribute to the mastering of skills required for my field, as well as to the improvement of my mathematics based practical problem solving abilities. Besides of these, the outstanding international programme would allow me to experience working in a multicultural environment, and to improve my language skills to the proficient level, that being essential nowadays, basically determine the value of a diploma.
