Upside down

Put it uspside down.

Put it on its back.

Are they correct and do they carry about the same meaning?

It depends on the shape and nature of the thing. An object whose height is not its greatest dimension may well be put upside down and thereby be on its back . An object whose height is greater than its other dimensions will not be on its back when it is upside down -- unless it is something like an animal that actually has a back .
