upper case

When should words like gothic and baroque take the upper case? I've got a sentence: Part of it was a gothic foundation. Shouldn't gothic be Gothic?

It certainly looks better that way. I checked a dictionary and for most of the word's meanings it says either "often capitalized" or "usually capitalized." Usage varies.
